Spring is the time of renewal. I feel the same excitement as I did, when I was a young girl. I love the first spring rains! They seem to paint vibrant colors, into a previously drab and sometimes barren landscape. I love the emergence of butterflies, that seem to appear from thin air. I love watching the birds, preparing their little nest. I especially love watching the flowers emerge from their beds, after a long, sleepy winter. With a long stretch, reaching towards the warm sunshine, they begin to sing… just like the ones in Alice in Wonderland. Okay… maybe not literally sing… (even though…secretly, I have tried to teach them!) All these lovely changes renew, a sense of wonder and hope in my life!
Spring fashions also bring an exciting and welcome change. Now that the Easter Bunny has made his appearance, he leaves us with a trail of enviable spring colors, bouquets of floral prints, and yards of beautiful lace. Everywhere you look, you’ll find lace-trimmed sundresses, strappy sandals and espadrilles, all tied together, with fun straw hats and matching straw bags. Now is the perfect time to shake off winter and bloom, right along with your garden! Let the kids relish their Easter Candy, I feel like a kid in the candy store, full of mood-lifting, spirit-raising, wearable eye-candy!
Look around…Spring is definitely peeking out around every corner. Yes, even the store display windows are in full, brilliant bloom, draped in lovely pastels, their mannequins proudly flaunting the newest Spring fashions. It is always exciting to see what is “new” each year, but classics, never go out of style. A pair of espadrilles, tied gracefully around your ankles. A floral print dress or brightly colored skirt, swaying, with every step you take. I search for the appropriate occasion to pin my hair up in a loose wispy style and peek at the world from beneath my straw hat. (sometimes, a simple trip to the grocery store will suffice.) I love to snip a fern leaf and maybe a rosebud or two from my garden, to tuck into the hatband, for that little something extra. To me, it not only adds color, it expresses my joy, in all things spring.
I put away my heavy leather bags, and happily utilize my light-weight straw bag, or a soft, almost shapeless, hobo-style bag that hangs lightly on my shoulder and conforms to my body, as if it has always been there. Spring bags, should be fun! They don’t have to be a designer bag. They can sport whimsical prints or be made from wooden boxes. They can be a dainty woven clutch, embroidered with little flowers, or a small basket style bag. Spring is a great season to try something new!
Enjoy this spring! The hot, hazy, lazy dog-days of summer are right around the corner, so don’t miss this, oh so fresh and fleeting time, with its’ colorful landscape, bright and temperate days, to emerge out of your cold weather mindset. Adorn yourself and your surroundings with bright, airy, spring-inspired everything!
