Winter Whites

by Lisa Cain / Friday, January 26 2018 / Published in Winter

January; the first month of a brand-new year. It is a transitional month in many ways, with all the happy, hectic, chaos, replaced with a tranquil serenity. Once you have finally tucked away the last holiday ornament, the house is quiet, and seems a little empty. Spring still feels, so far away, and winter, has yet to release us, from its’ chilly grip. The air is still, and the world seems to be taking cues from mother nature, in moving a little slower. Now is the time to take in that long awaited deep breath and slow release. Januarys’ slower pace, allows time to view the world through an artist’s eyes. Look outside and notice the many wonders of nature, this time of year.   Pay close attention to her color palette. Subtle shades of cream, white, tan, beige, taupe and various shades of gray. In the same fashion we find ways, to bring the bright and festive colors of the holidays inside, so can we also enjoy bringing these calming shades into our homes and wardrobes.

Focus your attention towards the subtle beauty of classic “Winter Whites”. These are delicate symphonies of color that are synonymous and ultimately harmonious, with the post-holiday season. Its’ many shades and hues, compliment not only the season itself, but the calming effects it brings. Replace the tinsel and glittering decorations from the holidays, with beautiful milk glass, or classic, Italian Pottery. Such a perfect way, to bring the calming winter color pallet, into your home. Pack away the Christmas dinnerware, and honor the season and our grandmothers by filling our hutch with their antique bone china. Unpack and display those elegant bisque figurines. Now is the right time to embrace the true beauty of the winter season and all its peaceful splendor.

Our holiday wardrobes, often filled with bright and bold jewel tones, somehow seem out of place, now that the world isn’t bustling with excitement. Comfort is what we crave, in the colder temperatures. Pull on an ivory colored, cable-knit sweater that is oversized, and oh so snuggly. Wrap yourself in that go-with-everything, cream-colored cardigan or shawl. With so many gorgeous shades of winter white, ranging from wonderfully delicate off whites to the softest or deepest gray, there is sure to be one, that compliments your complexion. If work is still on the agenda, brighten the board room with a tailored suit, composed of matching blazer and trousers. Add coordinating accessories, in various complimentary shades. Don’t forget about your Mother’s Pearls! In so many beautiful shades and lengths, you can never go wrong with pearls. All of these items, should be wardrobe staples, this time of year. So… whether you totally embrace winter whites, or simply use it for accent pieces, let these glorious shades of winter, be your fashion guide, from now, until its time to don the sweet pastels of Spring!
